CAST IRON & HARD FACING ARC WELDING RODS

Due to the brittle nature of cast iron, repairs to the material are common place.

Nickel welding rods are a good choice when welding cast iron due to the limited thermal expansion of nickel.  Less thermal expansion means nickel filler is less prone to cracking.  It is recommended to use the minimum recommended current settings when welding cast iron with nickel to minimise heat stress.  Nickel welding rods can also be used without pre heating of the cast iron material.

Hard facing is the term given when metal material is added to a surface exposed to wear.  For example, a digger bucket is exposed to surfaces which cause wear to the metal of the buckets construction.  Extra sacrificial metal can be deposited onto the teeth and bottom of the bucket by means of welding to reduce wear of the structure of the bucket.  The hard facing of the equipment can be repeated as and when required to ensure the bucket, for example does not become worn and ultimately fail.

Our hard facing electrodes, made by Weldability SIF are basic-coated, hydrogen-controlled electrode rods for hard-facing and abrasion-resistance of wearing parts. This electrode is corrosion-resistant, provides extra-hard deposits (54-58 HRC) and can be applied in several layers without cracking. It provides good wetting of the weld metal, very good weld quality, a good-looking weld bead and limited spattering.
Commonly used on rolling mill rollers, tracks, feeders, crushing jaws, ploughshares, excavator shovels, buckets, digger teeth and surfaces exposed to abrasion.
